This is not all as she then discovers how messy first love can be and what lies beyond the honeymoon phase of a relationship. The film won the grand prize in the Cannes Film Festival and is based on a novel by Julie Maroh.

Since the film is set in the 1950s, this love affair is looked down upon as forbidden. Cate Blanchett plays the role of Carol perfectly and displays a varied hue of emotions while fighting her battles and falling in love at the same time.

7. 45 Years

A plot like no other, 45 years is a film about how a couple who are planning to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary are shocked to get a letter. They find out about the husband’s first lover, who died in the Swiss Alps and her body remains are discovered after so many years. This changes the whole scenario and puts their marriage to test. By the time the wedding anniversary nears, the couple begins to drift apart due to this discovery and the husband’s behaviour towards his first love.

Released in 2012 and starring Edward Norton and Bill Murray in lead roles, Moonrise Kingdom is about the love story of a 12-year old orphan boy named Sam who escaped from a camp to meet his pen pal with aggressive tendencies. The couple, shunned by their closed ones for their behaviour, then go to an isolated island which they refer to as their moonrise kingdom. A hunt for the couple starts and how they leave all pain and suffering behind is what the film is all about.

Touted as one of the most romantic films of all times, Amelie is a French film set in Paris. It was released in the year 2001 and is directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It is a beautifully imagined plot where a quirky waitress named Amelie contacts her crush via secret messages and clues to help him determine her identity. She is adorable and wants to make everybody else around her feel better in their lives. She makes this journey look adorable with her imaginative ways and the utter desire to make her first kiss with the crush one of the most memorable moments of her life.

Emma plays the Belle and goes to the old castle to search for her father who has been abducted and kept in the castle. She slowly understands why the beast behaves the way he does and he is a person with a golden heart inside. The film comes with beautiful visuals and depicts this love story in a small French town wonderfully.
