Since the film is set in the 1950s, this love affair is looked down upon as forbidden. Cate Blanchett plays the role of Carol perfectly and displays a varied hue of emotions while fighting her battles and falling in love at the same time.

A plot like no other, 45 years is a film about how a couple who are planning to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary are shocked to get a letter. They find out about the husband’s first lover, who died in the Swiss Alps and her body remains are discovered after so many years. This changes the whole scenario and puts their marriage to test. By the time the wedding anniversary nears, the couple begins to drift apart due to this discovery and the husband’s behaviour towards his first love.

A hunt for the couple starts and how they leave all pain and suffering behind is what the film is all about.

The film comes with beautiful visuals and depicts this love story in a small French town wonderfully.
